Since
late 2004, Beard has continued its attempts to get at the
very base of music to the point of stripping away anything
unnecessary, including guitar. Perhaps this is in defiance
of their surroundings, or being labeled as a post-whatever-is-hip-to-hyphenate-with-this-week
band, or, perhaps in defiance of "pretty" music
altogether. There is little room for flair amidst its rumbling
bass, chaotic violin and disjointed drumming.
If you ask Beard what they sound like, they will say "bass,
drums and violin." They won't try to impress you with
obscure references to some band you've never heard of and
they may not impress you with their musicianship (for which
they are unapologetic, yet aware), but the heart is there
tenfold and it's unique, earnest music for those willing to
really listen. Beard is comprised of three very wonderful,
personable, friends who value music, appreciate playing for
their friends and complete strangers, and never take a minute
with their band for granted.
